The Erie and Edinboro areas are absolutely beautiful in the fall. Waldameer Park & Water World
Waldameer Park, and later Water World as well, has been a vital part of the city's fabric for well over a century. It rests upon an area once known as Hoffman's Grove, a 19th century local hotspot for picnics and beach-going. Just five miles from the Erie Maritime Museum, this is another great way to spend a fall day!
Riverside Brewing Company
Nestled on the banks of French Creek in historic Cambridge Springs, PA, guests can expect to be wowed with the initial beauty of the extensive outdoor landscaping (both preserved and restored from the historic Riverside Inn property, as well as and new additions and improvements) and the restored barn turned into the brew pub. The outdoor bar made from a farm silo makes the patio a great place to relax and enjoy some great craft brews and fine food.
Niagara Falls State Park
You'd need your passport to go to the Canadian side of the falls, but the view of the American and Canadian portions of the falls are absolutely breathtaking from Niagara Falls State Park in Niagara Falls, New York. A two hour drive from Erie, it's absolutely worth the trip for folks who have traveled from farther distances and may not be in the region again any time soon. Explore the Cave of the Winds, enjoy a cruise on the Maid of the Mist, go hiking, shopping, or to any of the fine dining restaurants in the area. There is something for everyone here!
Lake Erie Wine Country
This are is comprised of 53 miles of unique wineries and gorgeous vineyard vistas nestled along the shoreline of Lake Erie. It’s where you can relax and enjoy authentic, handcrafted wines (and even brews and spirits). With lots of varieties to taste and personality to experience, come sip, swirl and see Lake Erie Wine Country!
Cedar Point Amusement Park
Another option for thrill seekers that you can enjoy within two hours of Erie is Cedar Point – America's Roller Coast. Cedar Point is more than just (its 18) roller coasters. It’s more than thrill rides. It’s more than the mile-long sandy beach where the park's rich history began. Cedar Point is where moments, memories and connections are made (including in the Langill family). These connections last for generations and are always worth the drive when you're anywhere in the area!
Presque Isle State Park
Presque Isle State Park is a 3,200-acre sandy peninsula that arches into Lake Erie. As Pennsylvania’s only “seashore,” Presque Isle offers its visitors a beautiful coastline and many recreational activities, including swimming, boating, kayaking, fishing, hiking, bicycling, and in-line skating.
Presque Isle is a day-use park that provides year-round recreational opportunities, with overnight accommodations available nearby.
Lake Shore Railway Museum
Run by the Lake Shore Railway Historical Society (LSRHS), their mission is to preserve, enjoy and share the memory, history and experience of railroading, particularly that of northwestern Pennsylvania, western New York and northeastern Ohio, as it has been and as it is now. LSRHS maintains a special collection with emphasis on General Electric rail transportation products, Heisler Locomotive Works products, Pullman Standard Car Company products and all local railroad companies (past & present) due to the economic, social and historic impact they have had on the local area.
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
If you're heading west from Erie, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland is always a memorable experience. Not only is the build itself worth seeing, but its backdrop , settled on the shores of Lake Erie, is pretty incredible, too. Join the over 14 million fans who have experienced the ultimate music destination, and check out immersive exhibits that spotlight your favorite artists and celebrate the music that resonates across generations.
